Stockholm, 1 Nov – Vinnova, Sweden’s innovation agency, has awarded funding to NETRACCI, a project aimed at developing a new model for circular business governance. The project, led by sustainability consultancy Matters Group, brings together a broad industry consortium of leading Swedish property owners, architectural firms, manufacturers, and research institutions.
NETRACCI – which stands for NetZero Transition Framework for Circular Construction and Interior – will create a practical framework that directly links business growth and Net Zero targets with circular economy principles in day-to-day operations.
The project is now started and will develop a Net Zero-oriented governance model that enables companies to lead, measure, and track climate performance and value creation in near real-time. This model will be tested and validated in three to four pilot projects in real-world environments, where the circular economy will be applied as a method to achieve resource efficiency, competitiveness, and long-term value growth.
“This project provides the industry with concrete tools to move from strategy to practice. Circularity and climate targets must become a natural part of business governance if we are to reach Net Zero. By building the model in collaboration with both academia and industry, we are creating something that can be widely adopted,” says Niclas Ihrén, Project Manager at Matters Group.
“This is an important step for Swedish industry. By creating a data-driven foundation for the future of design and governance, we are laying the groundwork for how clients, architects, and suppliers can collaborate towards common goals. When strategic decisions are based on data—not assumptions—the entire ecosystem can increase value creation, reduce risk, and drive innovation,” adds Moa Turander, Senior adviser at Matters Group.
The project is being carried out in close collaboration with RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, and Linköping University. They are joined by a strong industry consortium representing the entire building and interior value chain:
- Need-owners & Real Estate Actors: H&M, Vasakronan, Swedavia AB, Areim, Platzer Fastigheter
- Manufacturers & Suppliers: PaperShell, Hyfer Objects, Rebel Light, Gärsnäs, Relevator, Ogeborg
- Architects & Design Partners: Semrén & Månsson, Kaminsky Arkitektur, Murman Arkitekter, Spectrum Architects, FOJAB
- Integrated Supplier: Yllw Factory, The NETRACCI project will run from 2025 to 2027 with a total budget of over 10 million SEK, of which 4.6 million SEK is funded by Vinnova through the program Impact Innovation: Competence for Net Zero Industry.
